CLTS Foundation was invited to the 3rd edition of Swacch Bharat Dialogue, organised by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Govt. of India, in partnership with Unicef (India) at India Habitat Centre on 1st March 2018.
The meeting was chaired by Mr.Parameswaran Iyer (Secretary, MDWS, GoI) and Mr.Nicholas Osbert (WASH Chief, UNICEF, India) and attended by various public and private agencies working for Swacch Bharat Mission in different parts of India.
The dialogue aimed at understanding the various issues that were faced during the achievements under the SBM (G). Following the presentation of the MDWS of its achievements under SBM (G), the floor was thrown open for discussions on the issues faced by the different agencies, their suggestions and way forward for reaching the target of creating an Open Defecation Free India.
Topics like behavioral change, quality of toilet construction, solid and liquid waste management, training of volunteers etc. were discussed with great enthusiasm. The Foundation shared its experience as a KRC in Uttar Pradesh along with its take on the sustainability of ODF environments. To this, the ministry also shared its plans for sustaining ODF environments by issuing ODF(S) Guidelines to all the states and its recent move to earmark separate funds for the same.
